Take a look below for our list of 10 of the best Invader Zim characters.
Invader Zim is the titular villainous main protagonist of the Invader Zim franchise and the titular main antagonist of the movie Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.
Zim is a member of the alien Irken race and a former Irken Invader; however, since his actions usually lead to disaster (having nearly destroyed the Irken homeworld during Operation Impending Doom) his leaders, the Almighty Tallest, banished him to Foodcourtia. While there, however, Zim heard of Operation Impending Doom II, and – obviously not understanding the purpose of his previous exile – “quit being banished” and ventured to Conventia in the hope of getting an assignment. Chagrined, the Almighty Tallest sent him on a “secret mission” to Earth, in order to keep him occupied and away from the real Operation Impending Doom II.
GIR (G Information Retrieval Unit) is the overall deuteragonist of the Invader Zim franchise and the secondary antagonist of the movie Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.
He is the hyperactive robotic assistant of Zim and the closest thing the incompetent Irken has to a friend, having been constructed from scrap parts by the Almighty Tallest just before it was handed to Zim, instead of a regular SIR (Standard-issue Information Retrieval) Unit. Despite of being one of the main characters, GIR only played a main role in three episodes: “Walk of Doom”, “Invasion of the Idiot Dog Brain” and “GIR Goes Crazy and Stuff”, and would have played another major role in the cancelled episode “GIR’s Big Day.” In every other episode he either played a secondary role, or appeared just as a cameo.
Gazlene “Gaz” Membrane is the menacing younger sister of Dib Membrane and the overall tritagonist of the Invader Zim franchise, serving as the tritagonist of the TV series Invader Zim and the deuteragonist of the movie Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.
She is also the daughter of Professor Membrane. Known for her dark, violent and antisocial personality, Gaz has frequently expressed her disdain for the rest of the human race, seeming to care about only two things in the world: pizza and video games. Few have been known to get between her and those two things and walk away unscathed.
Dib is the main protagonist of the Invader Zim franchise. a young paranormal investigator, all around freak, and alien obssesser that intercepted the words spoken at The Great Assigning using one of his alien seeking devices which is what started his career as a paranormal investigator even though he had been at it unoffically for years which he denies. Six months later after interceptingthe words, Dib notices a strange and greenn “foreign exchange student” enter his classroom. Dib tries his best to convince the world that it is in danger, but nobody believes him.
Dib must go against all odds to protect his unknowing home because no one on earth, besides Gaz (who doesn’t care) and himself, realizes that Zim is an alien. They often call Dib “crazy” or “insane.”
5. Professor Membrane
Professor Membrane is one of the main supporting characters of the Invader Zim series and the tritagonist in Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. He is the father of Dib and Gaz, but he has very little time for his offspring, being one of the most famous and important people on Earth.
The Professor, as he is often called, is rarely at home, so he supervises his kids in the form of a floating monitor, which often spews out pre-recorded reminders that are often way out-of-date. Expectedly, Dib and Gaz refer to him as Dad.
6. The Almighty Tallest Purple
Almighty Tallest Purple is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Almighty Tallest Red) of the 2001-2006 television series Invader Zim and one of the two overarching antagonists of the 2019 Netflix film Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.
Almighty Tallest Purple is the co-ruler of the Irken Empire. He and Red are the tallest Irkens currently alive (now deceased), thus giving them joint sovereignty over all aspects of the Irken race. Although the only way to tell Red and Purple apart is by color, Purple is better described as the “comedic relief” of the duo. He doesn’t seem to work as hard as Red, but arguably has more comical lines in the show. While Red is in charge of the battles and important military decisions of their leadership duo, Purple is in charge of the social aspects.
It is assumed that like his predecessors, he has the ability to levitate by use of technology known merely as “Hover Belts”, and like his co-ruler he has an addiction to junk food.
7. The Almighty Tallest Red
Almighty Tallest Red is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Almighty Tallest Purple) of the 2001-2006 television series Invader Zim and one of the two overarching antagonists of the 2019 Netflix film Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.
Almighty Tallest Red is the co-ruler of the mighty Irken Empire. As their title suggests, Red and Purple oversee and dominate their species as they spread their reign across the universe. Although they are nearly identical in appearance, their personalities are starkly different: When there is a crisis, Tallest Red is the most likely of the two to solve it. While Purple is in charge of the Irken Empire’s social aspects of leadership, Red is in charge of military actions and important decisions in such. In terms of authority, however, both Red and Purple are little more than figureheads.
The Control Brains hold all the real power; even the Tallest must accept their rulings.
Tak is a female Irken and a minor antagonist in Invader Zim. Her main goal is to take Zim’s “mission” because Zim had ruined her training as an Invader.
Vicious and determined, she’s more focused on trying to gain for herself an honorable title as an Invader than revenge. She claims that Zim just happens to be in the way of getting it.
Despite her repeated assertions, she does show an inordinate amount of anger and bitterness toward Zim with good reason. Fifty Earth years prior to Zim’s arrival on Earth, Tak was going through training to become an Irken Elite, with the possibility of being chosen as an Invader.
9. Ms. Bitters
Ms. Bitters is a minor antagonist of the Invader Zim franchise. She is the teacher of Zim’s and Dib’s class at Skool. A tall, slender old woman of unknown age or origin, she’s a grumpy hag who is devoid of any positive emotion and full of demonic hatred for the sun, children, and life in general. Her first name, if she even has one, is unknown.
Keef is a rejected boy that attends Skool and was once friends with Zim. He makes multiple appearances throughout the show and comics, and in the Netflix film Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus, though usually in minor and background roles.
